THE SPIRIT OF GOD AND THE SPIRIT OF MAN

JOB 33:4

INTRO: We need to understand the fact of how the Spirit of God

Works and when the spirit of man starts to functions

together with Him.  Not knowing that man has a spirit

different from the Spirit of God and can function by

itself  may confuse us in giving credit to the Holy Spirit

when in fact He doesn’t wants none!

I.                   WE HAVE THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD

A.     Job 33:4”The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the

       Almighty gives me life. “

II.                WE HAVE A SPIRIT OF LIFE WITHIN US

A.     Gn. 2:7”the LORD God formed the man from the dust of

the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of

life, and the man became a living being.”

B.     Job 32:8”But it is the spirit in a man, the breath of the

                    Almighty, that gives him understanding.”

C.     The Spirit of man

1)Gal 6:18”The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with

    your spirit, brothers. Amen.”

2)1 Ts. 5:23”May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify

you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul

and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord

    Jesus Christ.

III.             THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SPIRIT OF MAN

A.     Has to be the right spirit

1)Ps. 51:10”Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew

   a steadfast spirit within me.

B.     Can compel us

1)Job 32:18” For I am full of words, and the spirit within

    me compels me; “

C.     Sometimes it is not right

1)Ps. 78:8”They would not be like their forefathers—

a stubborn and rebellious generation, whose hearts

were not loyal to God, whose spirits were not faithful to

   him.

D.     Stirrs us up

1)Acts 17:16”Now while Paul waited for them at Athens,

his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city

    wholly given to idolatry. “

E.      Presses us on

1)Acts 18:5”And when Silas and Timotheus were come

from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, and

testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ.

F.      Can be fervent in spirit

1)Acts 18:25”This man was instructed in the way of the

Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and

taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only

   the baptism of John.”

A.     Can purpose in one’s spirit

1)Acts 19:21”After these things were ended, Paul

purposed in the spirit, when he had passed through

Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying,

After I have been there, I must also see Rome.”

B.     Jealous spirit

1)Num 5:14”And the spirit of jealousy come upon him,

and he be jealous of his wife, and she be defiled: or if

the spirit of jealousy come upon him, and he be jealous

of his wife, and she be not defiled:

C.     Troubled Spirit

1)Job 21:4”As for me, is my complaint to man? and if it

were so, why should not my spirit be troubled?”

2)Dan. 2:1”And in the second year of the reign of

   Nebuchadnezzar Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams,

wherewith his spirit was troubled, and his sleep brake

   from him.

D.     Spirit of Sorrow

1)1  Sm. 1:15”And Hannah answered and said, No, my

lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk

neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my

                       soul before the LORD.

I.                   HOW TO BE DIRECTED BY THE SPIRIT OF GOD

A.     Deny the flesh it’s power over your spirit

1)Gal 5:16”This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall

not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

B.     Renew your spirit to know the will of God

1)Rom 12:1,2”Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of

God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices,

holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of

worship. 2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of

this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your

mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what

God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

C.     Make it a willing spirit

1)Ex. 35:21”And they came, every one whose heart

stirred him up, and every one whom his spirit made

willing, and they brought the LORD’S offering to the

work of the tabernacle of the congregation, and for all

his service, and for the holy garments.”

Conclusion: When we are able to distinguish the Spirit of God and the spirit of man, then

we can be able to know how to minister unto the Lord!
