THE POWER OF THE GOSPEL

Rom. 1:16

I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.

I.                   IT IS GOD’S POWER TO:

A.     PRODUCE THE NEW BIRTH

                                                               i.      1 Pe. 1:23 “For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.”

B.     TO IMPART GRACE

                                                               i.      Acts 20:24 “However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace.”

C.     TO ESTABLISH PEOPLE IN THE FAITH

                                                               i.      Rom 16:25 “Now to him who is able to establish you by my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past,

D.     TO NOURISH SPIRITUAL LIFE

                                                               i.      1 Pe. 2:2 “Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation,”

E.      TO CLEANSE THE CHURCH

                                                               i.      Eph. 5:26 “to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word,”

F.      TO GIVE PROTECTION

                                                               i.      Eph 6:17 “Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

G.     TO GIVE THE FULLNESS OF BLESSINGS

                                                               i.      Rom 15:29 “I know that when I come to you, I will come in the full measure of the blessing of Christ. I know that when I come to you, I will come in the full measure of the blessing of Christ.

II.                IT IS TO BRING SALVATION – 119 O.T. 388 – N.T.

                                                               i.       Ex 14

B.     Victory over enemies –

                                                               i.      1 Sam 14

C.     Healing for the body –

                                                               i.      Acts 3:6 “Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.”

D.     Deliverance from prison –

                                                               i.      Phil 1:19 “for I know that through your prayers and the help given by the Spirit of Jesus Christ, what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance.”

E.      Deliverance from wrath –

                                                               i.      1 Thes 5:9 “For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

                                                               i.      Luke 19:9 “Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.”
