STUDY FOR THE BAPTISM IN WATER

INTRO:

I.                   NEW LIFE IN JESUS CHRIST

A.     You have found what your soul desired

1)Psalms 42:1-5 “As the deer pants for streams of water,

so my soul pants for you, O God.  My soul thirsts for

God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with

God? My tears have been my food day and night,

while men say to me all day long, “Where is your God?”

These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I used to go with the multitude, leading the procession to the house of God, with shouts of joy and thanksgiving

among the festive throng.  Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.”

B.     You have received forgiveness of sins

1)1  John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness”

C.     You have been made a child of God

1)John 1:12 “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God”

      D.  All Things have been made new

1)2 Cor 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a

new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”

II.                WHAT IS EXPECTED FROM YOU NOW

A.     Occupy in your salvation

1)Phil 2:12 “Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,”

      B.  Seek His Holiness

1)Heb 12:14 “Make every effort to live in peace with all

men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the

            Lord.

C.  Keep His Word

1)Psalms 119:9 “How can a young man keep his way pure?

By living according to your word.

       D.  Be a praying person

1)Rom 12:12 “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction,

            faithful in prayer.”

III.             HIS ORDINANCES

A.     Baptism in Water

1)Mat 28:19-20 “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

                   B.  Holy Communion

1)1 Cor 11:23-26 “For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26 For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.”

IV.              THE BAPTISM IN WATER

A.     Jesus Christ left His example

1)Mat 3:13-17 “Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. 14 But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” 15 Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented. 16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”
